Welcome to the Knee Knacker!

March 17, 1999

Congratulations! You were one of the lucky runners picked to participate in the 1999 Knee Knacker. We are looking forward to seeing you bright and early on Saturday July10th for our 11th Annual fun run.

We received 247 applications for entry this year. Much schmoozing with the Districts of West Vancouver and North Vancouver, the B.C. Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks and the Greater Vancouver Regional District resulted in the approval to increase the number of race day runners from 150 to 175 for 1999. As a result, the organizing committee accepted 199 entries through the lottery in addition to the 11 runners guaranteed entry for past performance results. Unfortunately that also meant that 37 runners were not selected in the lottery.

It is my pleasure to introduce the 1999 Race Committee:

Banquet: Amanda Barlow and
Jim Helten
Aid Stations: Barb Adair
Training Runs: Rod Hatfull Work Party: Chris Mager
Web Guru and
my mentor:
Enzo Federico Sponsorships/Promotions: Vida Morkunas

Although it is still early, it looks like this year’s run will be in snow at the higher elevations. My prediction is a maximum of 5km around the top of Black Mountain to Hollyburn. Presently, the snow level at Cypress Bowl is over 8 meters - double the amount of last year! As a result, the 1999 Training program has been modified for the snow.

We have scheduled a work party for June 5th. Chris Mager (736-4120) will be organizing this year’s general fix-up party. Entry into Knee Knacker also makes you a member of the Northshore Ultra Trailrunning Society (N.U.T.S.). N.U.T.S. has adopted the Baden-Powell trail section from Grouse Mountain Skyride to Mosquito Creek. Please give Chris a call to confirm your help in this effort. Coffee and treats will be provided!

Your entry is NOT transferable, i.e. you cannot sell or give it away to anyone else. You will be required to provide identification at the pre-race registration. We have changed the refund schedule for 1999 in the hopes we can more accurately predict the number of day of race runners. This should allow additional runners, currently on the waiting list, to participate if a spot becomes available. All withdrawals must be in writing or email. The refund schedule is as follows: By April 30th, refund $60; by May 30th, refund $45; and by June 30th, refund $30.

Please checkout our Website (http://members.xoom.com/k_greenaway/) for additional race information. Should you receive this via snail mail and have an E-mail address, please E-mail me with this address. And finally, I would love to have all entrants meet their individual Knee Knacker goals this year. If I can help, please do not hesitate to e-mail or call.
