A group of 12 runners and Ziggy the ultradog got together for our second last group run. We carpooled to Cypress Bowl and were greeted with cool temps at the high elevation. But the heat came on strong later in the run, good thing I forgot one of my water bottles in the car!
We split up into 3 or 4 small groups, sometimes joining up and then splitting up again. At Cleveland Dam we ran into Rod Hatfull and some others who ran up from Park Royal and were going to Deep Cove as well. Our groups yo-yoyyed with one another as we passed and re-passed each other along the trail. Poor Rod was telling me how "unconditioned" he is these days - he only cycled 140 km the day before and was feeling his legs by the end of the 5 hour run, go figure! (all these ultra veterans seem to be the veteran sandbaggers as well!)
Bill & Emery, the speedsters, led the pace and pulled into Deep Cove just under 5 hours and all the runners had come in by 5:40 hrs. Another good run on a beautiful summer's day. Next week's run will be the final 1/4 or Michael's suggestion of doing an out & back to Old Buck. We'll decide which route to take when we meet in the Panorama parking lot @ 7 am on Sunday. I'd prefer to do the out & back as that is the easiest option with regards to carpooling (i.e. none required!) Bring some money for those delicious Honey's Donuts - they get tastier every year!
Cheers.
