Training Run - July 8, 2001

The final Sunday training run of the year saw the smallest turnout - only 5 people showed up, and Ziggy of course. Guess the rest of the regulars take the tapering thing seriously.

We decided to run an out & back from Panorama park to the top of the Seymour Grind. Since we weren't running long "we" decided to up the pace a bit. The muggy weather helped get the sweat flowing as we stayed in a pretty close group. Coming across Mt. Seymour Road we ran into the North Shore Search & Rescue mobile headquarters and several police cars. Apparently a female hiker was lost on the mountain since 4 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully they found the woman safe and sound.

Three bikers had just made their way up Old Buck and were continuing on the Baden Powell as we approached the T-intersection there. Shouts of "How about a race downhill?" followed us as we blasted by them...haha nice bikes guys but those heavy full suspension rigs are a pain in the @ss uphill eh?

We stopped for a quick drink at the turnaround and everyone but Steve headed back. He decided to run "20 min" further just to get a bit more of a workout. I bet he crammed during exams at school too ;-)

The run downhill was a blast and didn't take long. After the last two runs today felt like a warmup - only 1:30 hrs or so. The trail is in good (DRY) condition and the times this year should reflect that. Even Mike, who wins the muddiest runner award, couldn't find enough mud on the trail to mess up his legs. One last little note about the run. Jamie (a Sat. run regular) who hadn't tripped up all season decided to slip up 10 min. before the end and guess who was right behind him to witness it? I better get my wife to drive to the banquet 'cos I've got a few beers coming my way :-)

Good luck to all the runners, and especially the Sunday regulars. You guys & gals are running awesome - you're definitely ready! Try not to go too crazy tapering these last few days. Have a great race and remember to ENJOY yourselves and have FUN!

See you at the finish line,
