Mountain Highway Hill Training Run

We had another fairly large turnout this Sunday, with about 36 runners coming out for the Mountain Highway run.  I managed to drag my tired and hungover butt out of bed after celebrating my wife's 30th birthday.  Noticeably absent was co-RD, Paul Quinn who attended a wedding the night before.  I guess it must have been an open bar!

I managed to get the group lost within the first minute as the hole in the fencing around the bottom of the BP has been repaired.  Thankfully Godfrey somehow "Hodinied" his hand through the gate and unlocked the door.  Nice one Godfrey!  An eager bunch of keeners pushed me in the lead group all the way from Grouse to Mountain Highway and then all the way to the top of "Old Grouse Mountain Highway".  The weather cooperated and, while it was warm, the sun was hidden so it never got too hot on the open road.  We encountered a bit of snow in the last 10 minutes but nothing compared to some years previously.

Once at the top some of the group took the tram down, a few backtracked down Mountain Highway to St. George's Trail and then back to Grouse via the Baden Powell.  Three of us in the lead group took to the BCMC Trail and had a blast coming down it.  All told we finished the run in a little under 3 hours with others coming in at various times of up to 4 hours or so.  This is one of my favourite runs and a great hill training session.

Next week's run will be the last half, from Cleveland Dam to Deep Cove.  We'll meet at Panorama Park in Deep Cove at 8 a.m. and carpool to Cleveland Dam.  Hope to see even more runners out this week, including Paul ;-)
