Last 1/4 or Last 1/2 ... by Craig Moore

Well it finally came ... the last long training run before the
race. It certainly didn't seem very long though, did it? A
two hour run seems pretty easy at this point and after months of hard
training we can now all breath easily and take a little break before the
race. I'm sure there were quite a variety of runs and non-runs
today since the most important things at this point are simply keeping
the momentum going and getting rest.
I ran with a small group up Grouse Mountain via the power lines and then
up St. Georges trail to Old Grouse Mountain Highway. We had a
leisurely stroll to the top where the Mountain Bike World Cup event was
taking place this weekend. Our main reason for going was the great
sale on clothes that Sugoi was having. And we stayed true to our
word and came home with some awesome new running clothes at bargain
prices.
I believe a number of people also met in Deep Cove to do part of the BP
trail today. At this point, the only thing I know for sure about
their run is that there is a new and quite large tree down across the
trail just below Indian River Road, before the intersection of the BP
and the power lines, and just before the you hit the big rock drop
off. This is a bit of a blind spot as you run around the corner so
watch out if it is not removed by race day. Other than that I hope
everyone enjoyed their run on this very mild and overcast Sunday.
As far as the weather
forecast goes for this week, we are expecting very warm weather
starting Tuesday, with clear skies. The satellite picture shows a
good long range picture as well. Cross your fingers for another
beautiful Knee Knacker race day!
Also, please be sure to read over all the e-mails you have been sent
lately regarding race package pick up and identification bracelets (new
for this year). And if you have any questions, be sure to ask.
On a more personal note, many of you are aware that I am taking the
liberty of doing a little extra distance this year for the Knee
Knacker. I'll be leaving Friday evening at 6:00 pm from Deep Cove
and making my way toward the start line for a 6:00 am return trip with
the race. I'll have one of my faithful running buddies with me to
support me through the night and of course I'll have all of our amazing
aid station volunteers to give me food, water and encouragement on the
way back. I guess I just can't get enough of a good thing.
Thanks to everyone who's given me their best wishes and help with all
the training ... it's going to be a challenge for sure.
For the last time, rest well and dream of the trail and BE SURE to take a bus from Deep
Cove to the start line on Race day or be dropped off because there is no
parking at the start line this year. See you at the start line!
