- West on the Baden Powell trail up through
the British Properties to Millstream Rd/Craigmohr Dr.
- Continue straight on
the Baden Powell trail across Millstream Rd., up the stairs, and continue for
another 15-30 minutes to the lower Brother's Creek bridge and waterfall.
- Cross the bridge, continuing on the Baden Powell trail
for another 5 minutes or so until you come to a wide gravel road.
- Go right and uphill (still on the Baden Powell trail) for
another couple of minutes until the road re-enters the woods at a junction
with the Skyline/Trans-Canada trail.
- Continue straight, following the "BP" trail markers
uphill through the forest. This is the Hollyburn Chute.
- When you come to an intersection with the Crossover
trail, continue straight on the Baden Powell.
- After 20 - 30 minutes of climbing the Chute, the trail
comes out to a large open area. This is the West Lake Plateau.
- Follow the rocky road around to the right (you
should still be on the Baden Powell trail) and up the hill.
- After a couple of minutes, you'll come to another Baden
Powell sign-post on the right. Follow the trail to the right and
up the steep, rocky slope.
- At the top of the rocky slope,
go right, continuing to follow the Baden Powell trail.
- At the bottom of the next hill, go left.
You're still on the Baden Powell trail.
- Continue following the trail, veering left at each
of the next two trail intersections. After 5-10 minutes, you'll go down
a small hill and cross a nice wide bridge at the end of First Lake. The
Ranger cabin is the large one on the left right after the bridge. You
can get drinking water from a tap on the cabin porch (a sign says the
water is untreated but the ranger, Ranger Jay, drinks it as have I for many
years -- it's perfectly safe).
- Retrace your steps back to Cleveland Dam.
