Hi everyone!
Well as tradition dictates, this is the first of the weekly training running reports. Sunday May 6th brought out drizzly and somewhat damp conditions, but an enthusiastic group of about 30 or so runners were ready to start their Knee Knacker training. The number for the opening day of training was down from last year’s 53 but this can be attributed to the Vancouver Marathon that was also running that morning. Sunday’s run also brought out 5 newbies so welcome and good luck in your training.
Unfortunately training leaders Craig Moore and Glen Pace couldn't make it out Sunday but, thanks to Race Director Kelsy Trigg, committee member Jeff Trigg and Knee Knacker vet Loger Aure, we managed to complete a successful training run. At press time, there were no reports of any tumbles, nose-dives, twists or sprains ... well none that would let pride admit to. There were a lot of old familiar faces, some new ones and a lot of seemingly ongoing chatter on the trails ...awesome!
The run from Grouse Mtn to Mountain Hwy and back is roughly 14 km and took anywhere from 2-3 hrs to complete. The trail is in relatively good shape with just a couple of downed trees from last year’s wind storms. In doing an out and back training run, it looked like everyone was enjoying the run and that it was a successful first one.
Thanks everyone for coming out on Sunday. And for the first timers and new runners to the trails, don’t forget to ask lots of questions about the race course, food/water intake for training or race day or any other questions about something you’re not sure of. You will find that as trail runners we are very supportive and full of info that might come in handy. The goal for our committee is to put on the best possible race and for you the racer to be successful in finishing the Knee Knacker. Thanks again and we will see you on May 13th!
