Welcome to the 20th annual Knee Knacker group training runs! This is a short notice to prepare you for our first day of running together, this coming Sunday, May 4. We will be meeting at Grouse Mountain at the top of Nancy Green Way in North Vancouver. We’ll gather in the lower unpaved Grouse Mountain parking lot to avoid paying for parking and to be close to the trailhead. I will be doing a pre-run briefing at about 7:50 a.m. and we’ll be long gone as close to 8:00 am as possible. Here are some things to remember:
· Everyone is welcome to join us but those not entered and accepted to the race must please sign a waiver at the training run for our insurance coverage. This is done once only per person for the whole 2 months of group runs.
· The training runs are for people to get familiar with the route and to encourage runners to help one another. Please plan to run in groups and get to know some new faces (and backsides).
· If you don’t know the route it is your responsibility to stay with someone that does. If you can’t keep up with faster runners then fall back with the next person.
· Bring water or other fluids to carry with you for every run.
· Bring food with you.
· Bring money and identification. A credit card is very good to have in case you need to get a ride during the run for any reason.
· Bring your happy smiley faces because running on the Baden Powell Trail is a blast!
And please remember, the Sunday runs are meant to be long and slow. Taking it easy, especially at the start, is the best way to avoid injuries. It takes most people a good half hour or more to warm up. It’s not a race until July 12.
See you Sunday morning!
